About the Sainsbury Archive

The Sainsbury Archive was established in 1969 to mark our centenary and it has continued to grow ever since. Today, it spans over 700 metres of shelving, housing a remarkable collection of documents, photographs, audio-visual materials and objects, from food testing tools to packaging and staff uniforms.

In recent years, the Archive has undertaken an extensive digitisation programme, making more than 120,000 images available to explore online.

Since 2003, the Archive has operated as an independent charity and in 2005, it found a permanent home at the London Museum Docklands in Canary Wharf. (Charity No. 1096454)
