Argos is building a marketplace to offer customers more choice, more often

Argos

Argos has always evolved with the way people shop. From its catalogue roots to becoming the UK’s original multichannel retailer, and now a digital and Click & Collect leader, evolution has been a constant part of its story.

As part of its next phase of growth, Argos is building a new online marketplace capability. This will allow customers to shop even more brands under one roof, while continuing to benefit from the quality, reliability and convenience they expect from Argos.

Introducing a marketplace within the next year marks an exciting next step in Argos’ multi‑year transformation. It reflects what we know customers want – more choice, more convenience and more reasons to shop with confidence. With over one billion visits to our website each year and a brand built on value, trust and quality, we see a real opportunity to offer an even wider range of products that complements our core ranges and the highly valued suppliers we work with today.

Built on strong foundations

Argos is one of the UK’s most trusted retail brands, with a billion visits to its website each year and a longstanding reputation for quality and reliability.

Around half of UK households shop with Argos annually, making it the third most visited retail website in the country. Customers can choose from more than 60,000 products, with thousands added in recent years through Argos’ stockless, supplier fulfilled model.

These strengths provide a strong platform to grow a marketplace in addition to it’s core ranges.

Responding to how customers shop

The UK online shopping market is well established and we know customers increasingly want to complete more of their shopping in one place, with greater choice and convenience.

Marketplace capability allows Argos to respond to these changing expectations. It enables the business to expand choice within existing categories and move into new, complementary ones – helping customers complete more of the missions they already trust Argos to deliver.

As a long standing British retailer, this evolution supports the next phase of digital growth while strengthening what customers already rely on.

A marketplace built around trust and quality

Argos’ marketplace will reflect its heritage, scale and values. It will not be an open or unregulated platform.

Sellers and products will be carefully curated to complement our core ranges, with a clear focus on quality, product safety and customer confidence.

Over time, we also believe Argos’ distinctive Click & Collect model is an exciting area to explore and further set the marketplace apart. With Fast Track delivery and Click & Collect available across more than 90% of UK postcodes, seven days a week, Argos is well placed to offer convenience at scale as the marketplace grows.

"Mirakl is proud to power the Argos marketplace, leveraging our intelligent commerce technology to help them operate more efficiently and expand choice for their millions of customers.”

What this means for customers

Marketplace is the next step in a journey Argos has already been on for many years now, which has focused on transforming the business around the three things that have always made it brilliant – its curated range, famously convenient experience and great value.

Marketplace builds on this progress. It enables a significant expansion in the number of products available across the Argos website and app, both within existing categories and into new ones. Over time, the ambition is to offer many times more products than are available today, focusing on the areas customers value most.

For customers, this means:

  • More choice, in one trusted place

  • Greater convenience through delivery

  • The same confidence and reliability they associate with Argos

Part of a wider transformation

The development of a marketplace is one element of a broader, multi year transformation at Argos.

Alongside marketplace, Argos is investing in:

  • Argos Pay: Our new flexible credit offer, one of the largest in the UK. Customers only have to apply once and can shop anytime, using their account again and again without having to reapply each time. It’s fair and flexible, all plans are clear and transparent with no early repayment fees. And it lets shoppers stay in control with the app, set up spending alerts and get a clear view of everything in one place

  • Argos Plus: This is our new annual fulfilment pass. For £40, Argos Plus gives customers access to same day, next day and standard delivery services at no additional cost for 12 months

  • AI, personalisation and our app, which will almost double in scale by the end of the year

  • Improving our core ranges by deepening our supply partnerships with best-in-class global consumer brands, alongside developing our own-label brands of Habitat, Bush, Home and Chad Valley

  • In product value and new services, driving stronger value and quality perception and consideration with shoppers

  • In stores, alongside automation, giving customers even greater convenience and further developing the UK’s leading fulfilment network

Together, these changes are designed to strengthen value, quality and convenience for customers.

Looking ahead

This is not about changing what Argos is famous for. Core categories will continue to grow, supported by strong supplier partnerships and established market leadership.

Marketplace allows Argos to build out from these strengths – expanding choice, staying relevant and making it easier for customers to shop in the way that suits them.

As it has done throughout its history, Argos continues to evolve with customers firmly at the centre.

Want to know more?

The Argos marketplace is an expansion of the Argos online offer that allows selected third-party sellers to list and sell their products on the Argos website and app. This increases the range of products available to customers, while keeping the quality, safety and reliability they expect from Argos.

Customers increasingly want more choice and the ability to complete more of their shopping in one trusted place. A marketplace allows Argos to expand its range across existing and new categories, helping customers find what they need more easily and shop with greater convenience.

No. Argos will continue to grow in categories where it already has strong market positions, such as Electricals, Toys and Home. Marketplace builds on these strengths rather than replacing them.

The Argos marketplace will be carefully curated. Sellers and products will be selected with a strong focus on quality, safety and customer confidence. The aim is for customers to feel the same level of trust buying from marketplace partners as they do when buying directly from Argos.

Argos brings together scale, trust and heritage alongside the potential to combine with it’s market leading Click & Collect and Fast Track delivery network. This allows the marketplace to focus on quality and convenience, rather than being an open or unregulated platform.

Yes. Click & Collect remains a core part of the Argos offer. Over time, there is opportunity to explore how a marketplace will benefit from Argos’ distinctive fulfilment model, helping to offer convenient delivery and collection options across much of the UK.

For customers, the marketplace means:

  • A wider choice of products in one trusted place

  • Greater convenience through delivery

  • The same reliability, service and confidence associated with Argos
