Nectar is transforming the way that customers maximise value at Sainsbury’s and customers who do not already have a Nectar account can register for one here, ensuring they have access to the best deals available: https://nectarprices.onelink.me/9tZQ?.

The arrival of Sainsbury’s Wynyard has created lots of jobs for local people and over 110 new colleagues have been recruited to join the new store team.

Sainsbury’s is all about making good food exciting, delicious, affordable and easy to enjoy – and the new 29,000 sq ft store will showcase Sainsbury’s very latest supermarket offer. The store will feature an extensive range of high quality, great value products, including hundreds of new items added over the past year across fresh food, fruit and veg, food-to-go, kitchen cupboard favourites and frozen food, as well as bread and pastries baked daily in-store.

The store will also include a brand-new Argos store inside the supermarket, conveniently enabling customers to choose from thousands of products while picking up their groceries. The new Argos will also feature the retailer’s full range of popular Habitat and Tu Clothing brands for customers ordering online to pick up in-store via Click & Collect.

The Argos store in Sainsbury’s Wynyard will build on the success of the nearby Billingham Argos in Queensway Shopping Centre, which will remain open as usual when the new supermarket opens.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s Chief Property and Procurement Officer, Managing Director of Smart Charge, said: “We’re on a mission to ensure that great food is within reach for everyone, everywhere. This year, through our largest investment in store expansion in over a decade, we’re bringing more choice, convenience and quality to more communities across the UK. We’re very excited to be opening our newest Sainsbury’s supermarket yet in Wynyard in time for Christmas and we’re now putting the finishing touches on it – we can’t wait to welcome everyone in-store on Thursday.”

Peter Conwell, Sainsbury’s Wynyard Store Manager, said: “I’m delighted to be leading the fantastic new team at our Wynyard supermarket, where we will join Sainsbury’s mission to make good food joyful, accessible and affordable for everyone, every day. We’re currently working hard to get everything ready for opening day, and after that, we’re really looking forward to playing an integral part in the local community for years to come.”

Notes to editors

Sainsbury’s is committed to promoting safer neighbourhoods. An example of this is its ‘Think 25’ Policy, whereby colleagues are trained to check the age of anyone buying alcohol if they appear to be aged 25 or under.

The new store will also deliver substantial benefits for the local community through Sainsbury’s charity, community and volunteering initiatives. For example, the store will take part in the retailer’s Nourish the Nation campaign, a programme in partnership with Comic Relief aimed at helping to tackle food poverty by ensuring communities have improved access to balanced, nutritional and sustainable food sources.

The new store is located in Wynyard Retail Park, which is part of Wynyard Business Park in Stockton-on-Tees. Around 300 car parking spaces, including designated Blue Badge and parent & child parking, have been provided for customers.

The ambitious development supports Tees Valley’s Strategic Economic Plan and the Local Industrial Strategy to deliver economic growth and job creation in the area.
