Supporting all our colleagues
Our approach to talent ensures that we enable all colleagues to be the best they can be. We give all colleagues the autonomy to develop, whether this focusses on career progression or being an expert in their role. All our colleagues have access to a learning platform that hosts various online courses, including personal development and mandatory training. We make it simple by letting them personalise the content they need, providing a network of mentors and sponsors and where necessary, programmes to give them the skills and experiences they need for a fulfilling and varied career. To ensure that we have the support in place to build a diverse talent pipeline, we offer leadership development acceleration programmes to encourage a diverse talent pipeline. Our Accelerate YOU programme also helps fast-track the development of ethnically diverse colleagues, while our sponsorship of the 2023 Diversity in Retail Ethnic Future Leaders Programme saw our largest cohort yet successfully complete the course.

Our development programmes
We have a wide variety of development programmes and opportunities available for colleagues, including personal development toolkits and programmes, including apprenticeships and graduate programmes. Our range of leadership programmes includes Leading@Sainsbury’s and Accelerate YOU.
We also offer a variety of apprenticeships across the business and have already supported 1,950 of our colleagues and managers with apprenticeship roles since 2016. We utilise apprenticeship programmes to enhance colleagues’ knowledge, skills and behaviours across a structured programme aligned to their job role, so they can make an even greater impact in their role and have even more confidence with their increased knowledge.
