1st September 2026 - As the school gates reopen and festive planning quietly begins behind the scenes, Argos has unveiled its highly anticipated list of Top Toys for Christmas 2026. Handpicked and carefully curated by its trusted toy experts after months of market research, the lineup highlights 20 of the most-wanted gifts set to dominate letters to Santa this year.

“This year’s Top Toys list brings together the very best in imaginative play and innovation,” says Chantal Pearce, Head of Toy Buying at Argos. “We’re always monitoring market trends to discover what truly sparks children’s imaginations, and our 2026 Top Toys list reflects the toys we expect to capture their attention this Christmas. From movie magic and retro nostalgia to screen-free storytellers and hands-on crafting, we’ve curated a range that inspires imagination, supports children’s development and encourages creativity through play.”

“Toys have been at the heart of Argos for over 50 years, helping families create magical Christmas moments year after year. As a brand, generations of families have trusted our expertise on toys, and we hope to continue inspiring gift-givers this festive season.”

Throwback Favourites

Nostalgia is set to continue shaping how families shop for toys this Christmas, with classic formats getting a contemporary upgrade. Today’s retro throwbacks bridge the gap between generations, giving parents a chance to share the things they loved as children with their own kids.

"Parents enjoy introducing their children to the toys and characters they grew up with, but kids still want something that feels fresh and fun to play with," says Chantal. "When a toy balances that retro charm with modern features, it quickly becomes a favourite across the household."

Leading this retro revival is Mini Brands Really Works Vinyl Playset (£20) — a fully functioning mini vinyl record player that really spins and plays music from chart-topping artists, complete with 44 mini records to collect. Gaming history also makes a strong impact with the LEGO Donkey Kong Arcade Building Set (£150), bringing classic 80s arcade culture home in brick form.

Meanwhile, high-octane classic play gets scaled up in the Hot Wheels City Ultimate T-Rex Garage (£130), featuring space to store and launch up to 50 cars. Traditional wooden play also remains a firm favourite with two Argos exclusives: the Chad Valley Alfie And Jo Wooden Train Set (£15) and the Chad Valley Wooden Classic Kitchen (£30).

Future Play

Interactive technology continues to bring brilliant extra layers to everyday play, encouraging creativity, sparking curiosity and giving children exciting new ways to express themselves through music, storytelling and roleplay.

"The best interactive toys are all about instant fun and encouraging kids to dive right in," says Chantal. "It’s wonderful seeing how intuitive tech can bring so much joy and confidence to playtime."

A brand-new toy set to become a firm favourite this Christmas, the Toniebox Lite (£60) offers a fresh update to the popular audio range. Designed as a compact, travel-friendly alternative to the Toniebox, it makes taking stories, music and audio adventures on the go easier than ever.

Meanwhile, for children who enjoy roleplay, the Little Live Pets My Magical Dragon Skye (£55) is set to be a hit. A mythical companion with over 60 physical reactions, the toy responds with sounds and movements whenever children pet, feed or play with it.

Continuing with the theme of animals and creatures, the Primal Hatch Megalodon Hatching Egg Shark Toy (£55) turns opening a new toy into an event, using a simple splash of water to trigger a fizzing, foaming reaction that lets kids "hatch" their own prehistoric shark.

Finally, clever tech features also give kids exciting ways to learn and express themselves musically. The VTech Kidi 12-In-1 Guitar Superstar (£50) uses light-up frets on the neck to guide beginners through playing real tunes, while the Projector Karaoke Machine (£90) pairs smart app connectivity with built-in stage lights so kids can put on full concerts at home.

Mini Worlds & Big Adventures

Small-world building and hands-on crafting gives children complete control over their own imaginative stories. From customising crafts to creating detailed mini setups, this trend is all about immersion—giving children space to express themselves and create their own adventures.

"Creative play gives kids the freedom to build their own stories from scratch," says Chantal. "Whether they’re designing gifts for friends or losing themselves in an imaginative world, these toys are all about hands-on fun that keeps them engaged for hours."

Building sets lead the charge for storytellers. LEGO Pokémon SMART Play: Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly Battle (£30) lets fans build their favourite starter Pokémon for creative play, while the Armosaurs Armor-Up Dinosaur T-Rex - Ajax (£45) brings action to life with tail-activated jaw movement and seven pieces of mix-and-match armour.

For kids who love to design and customise, the Giftie Badge Maker (£35) turns any bedroom into a crafting studio, connecting with a simple phone app to print custom photo badges and greeting cards for friends. Classic dollhouse play also gets a modern upgrade with the Argos-exclusive Jupiter Workshops Four Storey Wooden Doll House (£150), a four-story setup with working lights and sounds across contemporary styled rooms.

Finally, soft toys offer a comforting way for younger kids to process big feelings. The Argos-exclusive Flutter Monster 40 cm Soft Toy (£20) combines plush comforting cuddles with a hidden tummy pocket and feeling cards, giving children a gentle, easy way to share how they're feeling alongside a bedtime storybook.

As Seen on Screen

Favourite TV shows and blockbuster movies continue to inspire some of the most-wanted toys under the tree. This trend is all about bringing beloved characters off the screen and into everyday play, turning iconic moments into hands-on adventures kids can lead themselves.

"When kids fall in love with a movie or show, they want to step right into that world," says Chantal. "Screen-inspired toys are at their best when they let children recreate their favourite moments or create brand-new stories with characters they already adore."

Leading the movie excitement is Disney’s latest blockbuster, represented by the Argos-exclusive Toy Story 5 Bullseye Jumbo Plush (£50), a super-sized, extra-huggable version of Woody’s loyal companion. Pop culture fans can also take centre stage with the KPop Demon Hunters Golden Singing Dolls (£35 each). Available in 3 styles - Rumi, Mira, and Zoey; each singing dolls performs the band’s hit song from the film, "Golden".

For preschoolers, screen favourites come to life in a big way. The Megasaurus Dino Vehicle (£60) brings PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie to the living room with a massive 76.2cm dinosaur that automatically inflates at the press of a button. Meanwhile, Ready Pedal Peppa (£30) lets little ones help Peppa Pig learn to ride her bike with over 75 interactive sounds and phrases.

Rounding out the lineup for kids who love a good laugh, the Minions & Monsters Fart Blaster Pro (£30) lets pranksters launch real scented fart rings that float up to six feet through the air.
