Sainsbury's has opened its first-ever store in Dumfries, bringing a major investment to southwest Scotland, creating around 140 new jobs and offering customers access to Sainsbury's food, Argos, Tu Clothing, Habitat and online grocery services for the first time in the area.
Hundreds of customers visited the store on its first morning, with many excitedly queuing outside before it opened at 09:00 on Thursday 23rd July.
The new supermarket, located on the site of a former Homebase store, represents a £17 million investment by Sainsbury's, transforming the location into a modern supermarket destination spanning more than 35,000 sq ft.
The opening marks a significant milestone for Sainsbury's, which has long identified Dumfries as a community it wanted to serve. Prior to today's launch, the nearest Sainsbury's supermarket for many customers in the area was Carlisle, around 25 miles away.
In addition to offering Sainsbury's extensive range of great value, high quality food and household essentials, the store features an in-store Argos, with thousands of products available for same-day collection. Customers can also order from the retailer's full Tu Clothing and Habitat ranges online and collect their purchases at the store through Click & Collect.
The opening even enables Sainsbury's to offer Sainsbury's Groceries Online to customers across this part of southwest Scotland for the first time, providing greater convenience and access to the retailer's products and services.
