Sainsbury’s and Comic Relief: Creating change, one meal at a time

21 July 2025

At Sainsbury’s, we believe good food has the power to bring people together and to change lives.

That’s why our partnership with Comic Relief is about more than fundraising. It’s about finding creative, meaningful ways to support families, especially during the school holidays when help matters most.

This summer, we teamed up to tackle school holiday hunger head-on. The result? A campaign that combined fun, food and fundraising and made a real difference.

Get DINspired! at London Waterloo

In the heart of one of the UK’s busiest train stations, we launched our Get DINspired! pop-up, a bold, bright space offering 50p meal kits designed to help commuters whip up quick, nutritious dinners at home.

Every penny from those kits went straight to Comic Relief, helping fund projects that ensure children and families have access to good food when school’s out.

“The kits were fun, fast and delicious and even better knowing they helped families in need.” –  Commuter at Waterloo Station

Real Support, Real Stories

The impact of this campaign reached far beyond the station:

  • Newcastle Community Kitchen Funds helped deliver 300 hot meals a week during the school holidays
  • Lambeth Family Support Hub provided meal kits and cooking workshops for low-income households
  • For one parent whose child attended a holiday club funded by the campaign: “I can’t thank the club enough for saving our summer holidays. My daughter learned independence, made new friends and had fun – all while being well fed.”

Powered by People

From the pop-up to in-store fundraising, this campaign was driven by the energy of our colleagues and the generosity of our customers. Together, we showed what’s possible when community spirit meets a shared purpose.

“Thanks to support like this from Sainsbury’s, we’re helping ensure children don’t go hungry in the school holidays.”

What’s next?

We’re continuing to work with Comic Relief to bring people together through food, from future pop-ups and in-store activities to long-term support for community food initiatives.

Because when we say we’re here to help everyone eat better, we mean it, one meal, one family, one community at a time.
